Boarncruiser Hybrid
The Boarncruiser Elegance Hybrid is in all aspects equal to the diesel-powered Boarncruiser Elegance, only with one big exception; the hybrid installation. Not only will function the hybrid system for full electric cruising, it also provides the electrical needs for all onboard facilities during anchoring or a mooring place without shore power. You can enjoy nature for days without the noise of your generator.
How long can I sail electrically?
The drive consists of a 10 kW electric motor that is continuously connected to the propeller shaft. This creates the hybrid solution, as there is also a normal diesel engine on board. Depending on the speed, it is possible to sail fully electrically for a minimum of 3 to a maximum of 8 hours! The maximum speed by using only electrical power is 5,3 knots. For electrical sailing in a city or a National Park a speed of 2 till 4 knots will be more than enough.
The standard battery pack is no less than 33 kW and can even be doubled if required. When sailing on diesel, the electric motor works as a 10 kW generator and the battery is charged from empty to fully charged in approximately 10 hours. This battery pack also provides the electrical power for all onboard facilities due to the use of two 3.5 kW combination inverters/chargers supplying all 220 V consumers, allowing you to spend several days lying free in nature without the noise of a generator.
How long will the battery last?
That depends on whether you have sailed to your mooring place electrically or with the diesel engine. Suppose you have arrived on your spot using the diesel engine, and the battery is fully charged: Cooking a meal on the electrical 4-burner cooker takes about 1.5 to 2 kW, and of course plus the consumption of the boiler, refrigerator and lighting. You could calculate about 6 kW per day for this. In short, you can have 3 days and 4 nights off before you have to use the engine again. But wenn sailing on the diesel engine for three to four hours, the battery will be ready to use again.
The hybrid is equipped as standard with one shore connection (16 Ah) that requires at least 12 hours to fully charge an “empty” battery via the isolating transformer. With the option ‘increase battery pack’ with a second shore connection and isolating transformer this can be reduced to approximately 6 hours.
